A week in Rome
In October 2022, I travelled to Rome for a week of pure dolce vita and gluten. Here is a (not so little) summary of what I’ve seen and done in the capital. You’ll soon be able to download the full map on the shop with the different addresses and day tours I’ve planned for myself. Don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions!
Day 1: Trastevere
I took an early flight from Copenhagen to Rome, and landed at Fiumicino airport. It’s a bit far away but there are a lot of buses and taxis driving to the city center. I had pre booked a shuttle, and I strongly recommend doing the same as they are often fully booked.
The bus took approximately an hour to drive to the Central Station, where I then hopped into an Uber towards my Airbnb, located in Trastevere, one of my favorite neighbourhood.
Once all settled in, I trusted this amazing blog article and took a long afternoon walk in the area and treated myself with a delicious Italian Trapizzino and some suppli at Trapizzino Trastevere, close to my Airbnb. This place also offers local wines, great coffee and cheeses, and there is not a lot of sitting spaced inside, but they can also prepare take aways and have a cosy terrasse across the street.
For diner, I visited the famous pasta restaurant Luciano and their remarkable pasta carbonara with a modern twist.
Time to walk back to the AirBnb for a good night sleep.
Day 2: Walking in Rome
To start the day in the proper way, I decided to walk to Roscioli Caffè Pasticceria and enjoy their delicious pistachio croissant.
I then wandered around and followed a previously made itinerary that you can download in my shop.
For lunch, I went back to Roscioli, but instead of trying out their breakfast place, I entered the pizza slice paradise and visited their other address: Roscioli Antico Forno. The roman pizza is different than the Napolitana one, but offers a large variety of toppings! I tasted 4 different ones (which was obviously too much, but how to resist?!) and a little beer.
After that, I continued wandering through the Historical center all the way to the Pantheon, towards the beautiful rooftop Santa Cocktail Club. The atmosphere was very nice, away from the busy streets and the noise, and the cocktails were devine.
When the time was right, I made my way to Lo Scopettaro for a folkloric and lively diner as well as some Caccio e Peppe pasta and great wine.
Day 3: Colosseum, Palatine Hill and Roman Forum
That day counted a LOT of steps.
I left my AirBnb in the morning, passed by the famous Saint’Eustachio il caffè for an overpriced espresso and took the scenic route towards the Colosseum, where I had pre-booked my entrance from 11-14.
After the Colosseum, the Palatine Hill and the Roman Forum, I took a to go lunch and walked up to the Bucco della Serratura, at sunset. On my way down, I made sure to check La Bocca della Verità before enjoying a refreshing Gin Tonic on the roof of the Fortyseven Hotel.
Day 4: The Vatican
I spent this entire day admiring the Vatican Museum and the Sistine Chapel, really happy to have prebooked everything but also for the lack of tourists as well as the sun shining.
Everything made me in awe of the Art and the crafts and how beautifully each piece has been preserved. It was breath-taking and amazing to be there and I can assure that, if I ever go to Rome again, I will go back. There is so much to see and so many details to appreciate!
For lunch, I stopped at another great pizza slice location (but REALLY crowded) called Bonci. The atmosphere was really fun and the pizzas yummy, but the amount of queuing and the lack of places to eat around there was a shame. I guess they are victimes of their success!
After a (well needed) nap, I stepped out in Trastevere for one of my favorite diner of the week, the simple but amazing Enzo. I luckily got a table outside after waiting a little bit, and enjoy pasta carbonara, lamp chops and a tiramisu, as well as the company of the table next to me. This night was amazing.
Day 5: Villa Borghese
I wanted to have another look at Rome from the top, so I decided to go on top of the Monumento Vittorio Emanuelle II and enjoy a good coffee in the sun, looking down on the city.
After that, I slowly made my way to Piazza di Spagna and walked up the stairs towards the gardens of Villa Borghese.
To celebrate my successful holiday in Rome, I treated myself to a exceptional diner at Retrobottega.
After a night walk to La Fontana di Trevi, it was time to say goodbye to this beautiful city.
Until next time!
