Scottish Adventures with Rabbies Tours

During my trip around Scotland in April 2019, I was lucky enough to have Rabbies Tour show me how proud they were of their country and all the reasons why. First tour:Isle of Skye and Eilean Donan Castle

This tour started at 8AM at the Inverness bus station. In the mini coach were people from all over the world: Canadians, Californians, Chinese, Italians.

Stop 1: Eilean Donan Castle

We began the day by driving the Great Glen Fault Line towards Loch Ness where we admired Urquhart Castle and its incredible setting.

After a short break we drove towards Eilean Donan Castle, the most photographed castle in Scotland. Visitors have the option to pay an entrance fee to look around inside, but I decided not to. Instead I goofed around the castle and listen to the talented bag pipe player.

Stop 2: The Isle of Skye

It was now time to cross the sea towards the Isle of Skye.

We drove on the island’s east coast through the Cuillin Mountains to Sligachan all the way to Portree for a lunch break. This little town has a lot of choice but the guide advised us to try thy Fish and Ships shop on the pier. And it was worth it!

Next, I walked around the harbour and found a hidden path to relax and enjoy the view over the bay.

Once I had regained some strength, it was time to explore some of the island’s most famous scenery:Trotternish Peninsula, The Old Man of Storr, Kilt Rock, and the Quiraing.

It was spectacular.

That day, the guide informed me that Scotland will soon be 100% green and auto sufficient. They keep fighting for their lands and what is right. Scotland is, for example, trying to replant trees all over the country as they’ve all been cut in the past.

Second Tour:Loch Ness & the Highlands

I must admit this section of tour was less interesting, probably because we’d already seen so much of the country and its beauty and also because we had already visited the Loch Ness area. But nevertheless, the guide was very informed and funny, making me enjoy the day no matter what.

After leaving Aberdeen, we drove to the Glenfiddich Distillery in order to take a few pictures from the outside. There was a little drama in the mini coach because one of the guests thought we were going inside the distillery (which I thought also). I guess the tour description was confusing and I can see now they’ve changed it.

Next, we kept driving towards Clava Cairns where I could see very well preserved ancient burial tombs. Then we continued to Culloden Battlefield, the location of the final Jacobite Rebellion.

It’s an eerie, flat, tragic landscape that can put the history of Scotland into perspective. I would have appreciated the guide to come with us and explain what were walking on but we were left alone which wasn’t really informative.
