We then drove to Soweto, a 200 square kilometre township and drove passed Vilakazi street, the only street in the world that can boast having had two Nobel Laureates as residents: Nelson Mandela and Desmond Tutu. There, we could also sadly admire the Hector Pieterson Memorial and Museum established to commemorate the Soweto Uprising of 1976.

Once back at the lodge, I got welcomed for a tour of the property including Gandhi’s bedroom, followed by a local, organic and vegan diner next to the fireplace.
