Lake Atitlan and its villages
During my trip in Guatemala, in December 2017, I got the chance to stay in Santa Catarina Polopò, a municipality in the Sololá department of Guatemala located on the shores of Lake Atitlán (meaning “between the waters”). It is renowned as one of the most beautiful lakes in the world, and is Guatemala’s most important national and international tourist attraction.
Archaeological Sites Tikal and Yaxha
In December 2017, my mother and I visited Guatemala. As usual, during our travels, we like to keep moving: to explore the most of the country we’re in and to do as much as possible. During those ten days we therefore decided to add to our itinerary not one, but two Mesoamerican archaeological sites introducing us to the pre-columbian Mayan civilizations.

All along its history, Guatemala has known pain, hunger, dictatorship, bloody civil wars and high rates of crime, drug trade and poverty. Nevertheless, this country’s abundance of biologically significant and unique ecosystems includes many endemic species and contributes to Mesoamerica’s designation as a biodiversity hotspot.
